In this season when we give special attention to God’s Creation, we see the Destruction Season gather force in Ukraine where President Zelensky pleads in vain for Patriot missiles to counter Russian attacks and EU countries are allocating more to defence and cannot spare any weapons for Ukraine. The Patriot system costs millions of dollars: each missile selling for $4 million-$7 million, and each launcher holding 4 -12 missiles.
In another war where a month’s aid for a family is estimated at $250, Mosab, an engineering student living in a displacement camp in southern Gaza, carefully waters his tomatoes, peppers and aubergines; a few struggling plants in the salty sand he hopes will make his family’s supper more palatable.
